On October 17, 2007, The Centers for Disease Control released a study detailing the extent of MRSA infection in the US population. The study revealed that deaths attributed to MRSA infections had surpassed those due to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Coincidentally, that same week a high school student from Virginia also died from an MRSA infection resulting in the closure of the school for disinfection. In Connecticut, several schools had to be closed down due to a cluster of MRSA infections among some students. These events are really the tip of the iceberg of an ever-growing silent epidemic of a super bug Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus. Prepare to understand the saga of this killer bug.
